Have yourself a Handmade Christmas Part 2: Banteay Srey, Stitching Pretty and Poppy and Ivy Studios

This weeks Handmade Christmas Gift Guide features 3 of my favourite shops. Two are local Waterford businesses that I met in the early stages of Peeko Crafts and the third is run by a local lady, and friend of mine, who is living in Australia but her shop has a very special meaning.

Stitching Pretty

First up is for this week is Stitching Pretty. Maria is a Tramore based sewing machine wizard who makes the most adorable bunting, garlands, decorations, gifts, hoops, badges…you get the idea, she makes lots of stuff and it’s all deliciously cute. You can check out all the prettiness on her Facebook page

Christmas Stocking – These stockings, like all of Stitching Pretty’s creations, are made with gorgeous fabrics. This particular stocking is one I got for my own little lady last year and she absolutely loves it. I can assure you it can hold quite a considerable amount of presents and is definitely made to last. They can be made in a wide variety of colours and at €14-€18, they make a great value Christmas essential that is bound to last for years, and be kept as a keepsake for years after that.

Teachers Gifts – Keyrings and Bookmarks – These keyrings and bookmarks are great little gifts for teacher this Christmas. The apple keyring is €5 and the bookmarks are €5.50. Just in case any of my clarinet students happen to be reading this, the apple is my favourite!

Name Clouds – I absolutely love all the colour and details in these unique room decorations. Each cloud and it’s decorations are hand drawn and cut by Maria so each one is unique. And for €22, they are brilliant value for the work that has gone into them.

“I Believe” Hanging Rosette – Stitching Pretty has lots of beautiful rosettes, which can be customised and personalised. But given the season that it is here’s her “I Believe” Rosette in all it’s Christmassy glory for €10.

Gift Voucher – The majority of Stitching Pretty’s creations are custom designs made to order, which means she’s usually up the walls with orders this time of year and often closes the order book early. Luckily, she does offer gift vouchers for an amount of your choice!

Poppy and Ivy Studios

Poppy and Ivy Studios is another Waterford business, this time from Dunmore East. Emer creates “romantic, bohemian, feminine & rustic jewellery, using Irish sea glass that is wire wrapped with tassels, crystals & shells. Perfect for beach lovers & free spirits”. Not only that, she’s quite the artist and has some beautiful seaside themed artwork to offer as well. You can check out all her lovely creations in her Etsy shop and her Facebook page. Oh, and she offers free shipping, bonus or what.

Bohemian Hoop Earrings with Green Seaglass & Bronze Falling Leaves – Nearly all of Poppy&Ivy’s pieces are one of a kind original creations. Even those with a similar theme are going to be different due to the materials that she works with. I am in love with these particular pair of earrings, made with a flexible bronze leaf and wire wrapped emerald green sea glass, that she collected herself from one of her many beach combing missions. These earrings are €20 and other pieces are available from €15 from her Etsy shop.

Sparkly Blue Druzy Style Bracelet – This bracelet is perfect for the sparkle lover in your live. Like all of Poppy&Ivy creations, this piece is reminiscent of the shimmery glimmery surface of the ocean. This beautiful piece is available from her Etsy shop for €28.

Pendant with Shell and Beach Charms and Sparkly Glass – This one of a kind statement pendant is made from an oyster shell found along the Waterford coast line and is rimmed with gold. It is accented with a gold plated anchor charm and a blue sparkling crystal briolette and hung on a 16″ silver plated chain. This piece is availble from her Etsy shop for €24, along with lots of other sea inspired necklaces

Seascape “Mist in my Eyes and Wind in my Hair”Acrylic Painting – “Wild and rugged waves, heavy mist whipped around my face and hair by the gusting wind. The cliffs in the distance barely recognizable through the watery haze…” This is just one of the many wonderful paintings by Poppy&Ivy, this, or any of her other paintings would make perfect gifts for any lover of the ocean and it’s offerings. You can see more of her work on her Facebook page.  €80

Hammered Silver Plated Hearts with Genuine Garnet – These pair of earrings are somewhat different to the other pieces of jewellery I’ve shown you as they don’t have a sea theme, but they are still have the rustic, bohemian elegance that all of Popy&Ivy’s pieces bear. Depending on the earwires you choose, these earrings are €15 or €18.

Banteay Srey

Banteay Srey Boutique is a vintage inspired ethical fashion resource hosting a collection of beautiful handmade high-quality artisan products – designed, sourced, and handmade in the beautiful Kingdom of Cambodia and based in Perth, Australia.” This amazing project is run by a good friend of mine, Carol Murphy, from New Ross/Waterford who is currently based in Australia, and her friend Kim. All of the pieces found here are ethically sourced and can be traced back to the individual craftsperson. Most of their clothing (which can be tailor maide) is made using natural materials and their jewellery is made using recycled materials, like paper, stainless steel and bullet shells. Be sure to pop over to their website to find out more about the wonderful mission  and meaning behind this great project.

Cambodian Silk Scarf with Brass Choker Centrepiece – This stunning scarf is make with 100% Cambodian silk and is set off with a brass choker centre piece. The brass used to make this choker though has a story. It is made using recycled bullet and bombshells, “a beautifully symbolic act, transforming weapons of war into delicate pieces of fashionable jewellery.”. There is something very empowering about the pieces in Banteay Srey’s “Gold Collection”, which is only fitting as empowerment is a huge part of their message. This piece is available from their website for €57.85.

PENEL Black Linen Tea Length Evening Dress – Any of Banteay Srey’s dresses or skirts would make very thoughtful gifts for the fashionista in your life. They are all handmade and as such, can be made to measure, making them truly special pieces to be treasured. This particular dress is 100% and is a an “edgy yet elegant twist” on the classic little black dress and is €102.09 from their website. There is a wide range, varying in prices available so be sure to pop over for a look!

Bead Cuff – I actually have this particular cuff and I love it. These cuffs are made using recycled paper and magazine. They are made under the Friends-International umbrella, who “employ families of marginalized children and provide them with skills training to make products at home, in training centres and workshops.” The cuffs, and other pieces in the collection would make perfect gifts for the boho girl in your life. €17.01

Tree of Life Earrings –  These beautiful statement earrings are also from the “Gold Collection”. It’s amazing how something so destructive can be made into something so beautiful and peaceful.  €44.24

Silver Leaf Ring – This ring is from the “Silver Collection” and is another product of the Friends-International project. The pieces in this collection are made from an everyday item that you would never guess could be used to create such unique and beautiful pieces of jewellery. They are “hand crafted from metal tea spoons which have been moulded and shaped into stunning and magnificent pieces of jewellery.” €17.01

And that concludes my second Handmade Gift Guide! Happy shopping!
